More pixels do not prove recovered detail

Resolution describes pixel width and height. A larger output can hold more pixels, but it does not accurately restore information that was never recorded or has already been lost. AI enhancement also estimates detail, so compare the output with the source.

Choose the TOVA tool for the goal

Explore Quality Enhancer for on-device detail and sharpness. When using a separate upscaling option in the app’s AI video enhancement workflow, first check the available output dimensions and terms. Format Converter and Video Compressor are not AI upscalers; their resolution choices are limited by the source.

Sharpening has its own limits

Stronger edges can look clearer without making small text accurate. Watch for bright outlines, rough skin or invented-looking patterns. Favor a natural result over the strongest setting or largest dimensions.

Compare under the same conditions

A downscaled result beside a magnified source is a misleading comparison. Match the moment, displayed size, framing and brightness. Then play both on the screen where the result will be watched to inspect detail in motion.

Preserve the result when exporting

Saving the enhanced video at unnecessarily small dimensions or low quality can discard useful detail. Choose export settings for the edit and keep separate viewing and lightweight delivery copies. Not every project benefits from a 4K file.

02 / Follow these steps

Follow these steps

  1. Identify what looks inadequate on the larger screen and find the best source.

  2. Choose a short test with faces, lettering and patterns.

  3. Review Quality Enhancer or an available AI upscaling option and its terms.

  4. Compare the result at the same moment and displayed size.

  5. Inspect outlines, skin, lettering and moving texture.

  6. Process the material you need and save dimensions suited to the destination.

03 / Try this sequence

Try this sequence

Before preparing an older travel recording for a family TV, test a shot with a person and a sign. A result that looks clear on a phone may reveal unnatural texture on a larger display. Keep the viewing copy and make a smaller file separately for messenger delivery.

Before you export

  • Have you distinguished resizing from AI enhancement?
  • Have you matched the moment and displayed size?
  • Are faces and lettering faithful to the source?
  • Have you watched the result on its destination screen?
  • Have you kept separate viewing and delivery copies?

Frequently asked questions

Does saving 720p as 1080p make it equivalent to a native 1080p recording?

No. Adding pixels is different from capturing more original information. Check actual detail as well as output dimensions.

Are sharpening, brightness correction and upscaling all AI enhancement?

No. They have different purposes and methods. Color adjustments and simple resizing are not automatically AI upscaling.

Does increasing FPS improve resolution?

FPS counts frames over time; it is separate from pixel dimensions. See the interpolation guide for generating intermediate motion.

Can I choose 8K or any output dimensions?

Do not assume every size is supported. Check the selected tool, source, device and current options in the app.

Available tools and export settings vary by app version and device. Check the app for the terms of AI generation and cloud processing.
